Turning moments of loss into legacies of love...
THE HEART & MISSION OF HOMEGOING YOUR WAY
Hey there,
I’m regina.
And this work is deeply personal for me.
Homegoing Your Way was born from a journey of love, loss, and a desire to serve my community in one of life’s most challenging moments.
I started this business to empower Black families to plan homegoing celebrations with intention, clarity, and care. Too often, we avoid the difficult conversations about death, leaving our families overwhelmed and unprepared when the time comes. My goal is to change that—to encourage proactive planning that ensures your wishes are honored and your loved ones are supported, free from unnecessary stress or confusion.
Homegoing Your Way exists to support Black families through compassionate, culturally rooted funeral preparation and legacy planning.
Our mission is to ensure that every individual’s final wishes are honored while giving families the clarity and guidance they need to focus on healing, remembrance, and celebrating a life well lived.

The Inspiration Behind the Mission
The inspiration for this work came after the passing of my beloved cousin, who bravely fought a six-year battle with cancer. Two years before her passing, she entrusted me with planning her homegoing service, sharing every detail of how she wanted her life to be honored. When the time came, her sons were overwhelmed and unsure where to begin, and I stepped in to help carry out her vision.
The process wasn’t without challenges. From coordinating with the mortuary to writing the obituary and navigating unexpected family tensions, there were many obstacles along the way. But despite those hurdles, we honored her wishes exactly as she envisioned, creating a beautiful celebration of her life. The response from those who attended was overwhelmingly positive, and in that moment I realized that the support I had provided could help other families too.
My experience with my cousin wasn’t unique. When my father passed unexpectedly, I watched my mother — his wife of more than 40 years — face the emotional weight of planning a homegoing while grieving. I’ve also seen other families struggle in similar ways: children left without guidance, loved ones forced to make rushed decisions, and families navigating financial strain while trying to honor someone they love.
These moments revealed a common thread of confusion, pressure, and grief that often surrounds funeral planning. Whether it’s locating important documents, navigating disagreements about the service, or managing unexpected costs, the impact of being unprepared can ripple through families for years.
Through these experiences, I realized something important: planning isn’t just about logistics — it’s an act of love. When conversations happen early and plans are made with intention, families are able to grieve, celebrate, and remember without the added burden of uncertainty.
That realization ultimately led to the creation of Homegoing Your Way.
A homegoing is a deeply rooted Christian tradition within African American and Black communities that honors a loved one’s journey home to the Lord. Unlike traditional funerals, a homegoing is a celebration of life—a joyful tribute to the legacy, faith, and impact of the person being remembered.
The tradition also carries ancestral significance, reflecting the belief that, in death, the spirit returns home. A homegoing ceremony blends faith, culture, and community, transforming grief into remembrance and honoring a life well lived.
At Homegoing Your Way, we are honored to carry this tradition forward—helping families plan meaningful celebrations of life with the cultural understanding, care, and respect each legacy deserves.
